It was cold and windy last night for Halloween. We were just happy it wasn't raining! We managed to visit quite a few houses in the neighborhood with the kids. By the time we made it back to the house, the kids were ready for bed, so we didn't hand any candy out - which means we need to find a creative way to get rid of it.

Audrey wanted to be a butterfly - which was basically just wings - and great because we managed to talk her into putting her coat on first. Cole said he was not just a skeleton, but a Gamorean Guard skeleton. (Star Wars thing)

I was reminded of what a nice neighborhood we're able to live in. The neighbors didn't just toss candy into the kid's buckets and shut the door. Each one spent a little time asking them what they were dressed up as and also asked Laura and I which house/street we were from.

I was also reminded of how ugly the entry to our house is, after seeing all the fancy front doors in the neighborhood. I think we need those Curb Appeal people to stop by our place and freshen it up.

Just read your post about seeing your "kid" for the first time, and it really hit home. Soak it up while you can because it doesn't last long. One minute, you're dressing them up as a bunny, the next minute, they are complaining about download speeds.

So the kids didn't wake me up this morning. That means they must be busy doing something - hopefully, nothing bad. This is what I find...

That's Audrey (3), and Cole (5). Audrey started up her Mac, launched the Safari web browser, and went to NickJr.com. Cole started up the Powerbook, then launched Lego Star Wars.

Story 1:

A long time ago in the lost land the lady bugs were stuck. They needed to open the gate. They had ten feet muscles but needed 100 feet muscles. Next they tried getting a boulder - that wasn't strong enough. Okay, next the lady bugs tried to lift the gate out of the way. And then the ladybugs got some exercise and then tried again. The gates opened. The end.

Story 2:

A long, long, long time ago there was racing ponies that really needed to win more, more races. They need more speed. They need to win the race tomorrow or they will lose. They need to get past the bandits and win. Happily ever after.

Story 3:

Far away in outer space was stars in the shape of the big dipper. There was a falling meteor that hit them. The falling meteor landed on Earth. And then it stayed there forever. The stars were happy.

Story 4:

A long time ago, far far away, two guys with two cars were looking for zebras and giraffes in South Dakota. They travel everywhere. They have binoculars, swords to cut through trees, and walkie talkies, of course. The end.

You know, what if adults spontaneously jumped on top of things in stores that were as tall as they were? What if all the adults in the mall had to walk around the granite tiles that were orange (because they are fire!)? What if they walked between stores repeating "orange julious, orange julious, orange julious" out loud, over, and over?

I told Cole I would get some video of his next slide. I think the idea got him a bit amped up and he ended up taking it a bit too far.

It's been quite a while since I went to a soccer game - really, any sporting event, because Portland sucks for sports.

I grabbed Cole, my favorite 5 year old, and cruised down to the stadium to catch a Portland Timbers soccer game. It was his first time to watch a game in a big stadium, so he was just taking things in. The players. The stadium. The fans.

We're there for all of a minute and a guy comes by selling drinks and food. I buy a Sprite, a beer (warm), and peanuts. Those three items cost more than the tickets to the game.

During the game, Cole threw some random questions at me. One that I remember: He said, "Dad, did you know Qui-Gon Jinn has a pony tail?" I tell him I did, and just then a guy stands up in the crowd with a trumpet, and instead of playing his usual busts of his horn to get people cheering, he starts playing the theme to Star Wars.

Random.

After the first half, Cole got kind of bored and broke out the Game Boy. He lasted about an hour.
